  Xizang Minzu University, located in the ancient city of Xianyang, is an ethnic college under the jurisdiction of the Tibet Autonomous Region and is the first university of higher education established by Tibet’s municipal government. Founded in 1958, it was called Tibet Public School and renamed Xizang Minzu University in 1965.
  Today, Xizang Minzu University has developed into a modern comprehensive institution of higher learning in multiple specialty fields such as arts, science, economics, law, management, medicine and education. It now offers master degrees in 6 specialties, namely ethnics, Chinese minority nationality economics, ancient Chinese philosophy(focus on Tibetan religious), ancient Chinese literature, literary studies and special history, besides, it offers undergraduate courses in 37 specialties such as Chinese language & literature, Tibetan language, journalism, secretary, political education, English language and literature, philosophy, law, administrative management, ethnics, archival science, accounting, statistics, financial science, physical education, information management & information system, public project management and so on. It also offers some specialties for advanced vocational education such as accounting management, finance accounting, advertising, tourism hotel management, public relation, advanced nursing and so on. There are nearly 10,000 students of various majors, among them 50% are Tibetans.
  The university has more than 819 staff members, of whom 65 are Tibetans. Its faculty totals over 600, including 27 full professors and 139 associate professors. The university has made great achievements in teaching and research, and more than 10 have won National or Provincial awards. The university has reached leading positions in many educational and research fields in China, and has made its fame both in China and abroad for its ethnic studies and tibetology. It publishes two learned journals, Journal of Xizang Minzu University and Tibet Higher Education Research.
  The University has a good conditions, a more complete teaching facilities and advanced teaching methods with a library of over 1,000,000 books in collection, a teaching hospital of comprehensive functions, 32 specialized laboratories in 10 categories.
  The campus covers an area of 420,000 square meters and the environment is beautiful and peaceful. It’s an ideal place for the students to study here.
